This is very good news for the birds that nest in this valuable ecosystem. The regulation of the water level of the Estany to avoid the waterlogging of the nests has been a necessity that have been claiming the ornithologists of the island for several years.
Due to the increase in sea level due to climate change, the flow of sea water into the Estany Pudent and its salt mines has been increasing year after year. As a result of this phenomenon the margins of the Estany (potential nesting areas) have been dramatically reduced.
It should be remembered that the Estany Pudent and ses salines are located within the Natural Park of Ses Salines of Ibiza and Formentera and within the Natura200 Network that defines this area as a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA).
